Coronavirus cases in India cross 1600-mark, death toll rises to 38. State-wise tally

Kerala is also severely affected by COVID-19 disease
  • Maharashtra is the worst affected state in India with more than 300 positive coronavirus cases
  • In Andhra Pradesh, as many as 83 people tested positive for novel coronavirus today
India's coronavirus count crossed 1600 today with over 200 cases were reported across the country in last 24 hours. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh witnessed a record surge in COVID-19 cases. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has climbed to 1,637, according to ministry of health and welfare.
The number of deaths related to COVID-19 has also risen to 38. There are 1,466 active coronavirus patients in the country. A total of 133 patients have been recovered from the disease so far.

Mumbai, financial capital of India, is the worst affected city in the country. Over 160 cases were confirmed from Mumbai. The deadly novel coronavirus has infected a total of 302 people in Maharashtra. The death toll in Maharashtra has spiked to 11 deaths, highest in any state.
India's reported its first case of novel coronavirus in Kerala on January 30. The total number of coronavirus cases in the southern state has climbed to 241.
Delhi saw a huge spike in coronavirus cases this week. There are 120 coronavirus patients in the national capital. Delhi's Nizamuddin area emerged as the hotspot of COVID-19 disease in India. Several people who attended a religious congregation in Delhi held in March, diagnosed positive with coronavirus from across the country.
In Andhra Pradesh, as many as 83 people tested positive for novel coronavirus today. Most of these new patients were linked to the Delhi's Nizamuddin event. The state saw a over 40 new coronavirus cases in last 12 hours.
Tamil Nadu confirmed over 20 new cases, all of them had visited Delhi for the religious event. The total coronavirus count in the state stands at 124. The number of coronavirus patients in Karnataka has also crossed 100-mark today. There are 94 COVID-19 cases in Telangana.
Over 15 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Indore in last 24 hours, taking the total count in Madhya Pradesh to 47. Gujarat has so far recorded 74 COVID-19 cases while there are 94 coronavirus patients in Rajasthan. Uttar Pradesh has so far reported 103 positive cases. Haryana's COVID-19 count is at 43.
The coronavirus cases have risen to 23 in Bihar, nine in Chhattisgarh, 13 in Chandigarh, seven in Uttarakhand. Coronavirus has infected 55 people in Jammu and Kashmir and 13 in Ladakh. West Bengal has so far recorded 26 coronavirus cases in the state.
Authorities in India have started identifying emerging hotspots and taking cluster containment measures, said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the health ministry. The health ministry continues to maintain that there are no instances of community transmission in India.
There are more than 858,000 novel coronavirus cases around the world and over 42,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. The US has more confirmed cases than any other country — over 185,400. More than 3,800 people have died in the US.
The coronavirus pandemic is the "greatest test" the world has faced since the United Nations was formed in the wake of World War II, said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
